Náxos town

Accommodation can be found in Chora and many other villages on Naxos. The years I have been staying in Náxos Town, have mostly been close to the Castle area. Easter 2006 I had the opportunity to experience the hospitably at Sofi Pension! It is run by the friendly Koufopoulos family. Their hospitality makes you feel welcome and give you a desire to return next year!

The pension is situated just 500 metres from the harbour with lovely view towards the Venetian Castle. The house is surrounded by beautiful flowers and the rooms are nice and clean with private bath, air-condition, fridge satellite TV, balcony, heating, safe box etc. In other words everything you will need!

When you arrive to Náxos by boat, you will most likely see the sign "Pension SOFI - In the town", after 100 metres of walking or so.

Plaka

I discovered ΑΡΩΝΗΣ – Aronis tavern and pension suddenly back in 1996, when I was enjoying the marvellous Plaka beach. At that time it was a good thing to have the possibility of getting a nice meal 2 km south of Agia Anna. I actually didn't notice that they also were letting rooms and studios, because I was more interested to get a good lunch at Plaka, and still rent a room in Naxos town. Since then I have broaden my mind regarding where to stay on Naxos and some years I live outside town to get a more quite and relaxed stay and experience, at least during the main season.

Aronis have nice studios with balcony or terrace directed towards the beach and sea. The rooms are nice furnished and apart from the basics including bathroom there are a refrigerator and TV. For those with limited budget there are three rooms on the backside.

The family consists of Kostas and Maria with their adult children Koula and Yianos. Maria is mostly in the kitchen, where you also find Koula, when she not is serving or cleaning rooms. Kostas does most practical work in the background, while Yianos is serving, handle the grill and also do practical tasks. Most seasons they have some additional help, both in the tavern and with practical work concerning the rooms.

It's easy to get there: take the bus from the bus station, situated close to harbour at Náxos town. Enter the bus to Agia Anna & Plaka. Follow the bus to the end stop 25 metres from Aronis. The trip takes about 20 minutes.

Mikri Vigla

Hippocampus Club is apartments, restaurant and bar situated by the fantastic beach Mikri Vigla, also called Sahara beach about 17 km south from Náxos town. The easiest way to get there is by own vehicle, but you can also go by taxi as well as bus. The latter means that you have to walk 2,5 km from the bus stop or arrange to be picked up by the personal and hosts at the club.

The apartments are of one to four persons capacity each and equipped with a private bathroom - shower and furnished in the warm Cycladic style. Each room has a veranda with a wonderful view to the Aegean sea and the breathtaking sunset.

The restaurant serves traditional local cooking that is really tasty, food you cannot miss, based on old family traditions!

Furthermore you find a bar, snack bar and a kiosk with gifts and souvenirs.

This place is for lovers of tranquil places, closeness to a fantastic beach with few visitors, and people that find excellent cooking as essential. Also people with romantic feelings find the place ideal!

The Club is run by two families and all generations are involved. Here you meet helpful and service minded people that makes your stay a pleasant one!

I would like everyone to visit this place outside main season, in other words: April-June and September-October. The reason for this is that during main season, July-August, the place is often fully booked and personally I think travel out off season is preferable for many reasons: less tourists, nicer climate, lower prices to name a few.
